INNER KNOWLEDGE

UNBORN SOUND

The practice of the four elements has apparently been confused with a practice of listening to the sounds of earth, wind, fire, and water in the external environment, rather than the one that focuses on the self-arising sounds associated with the primary chakras of our subtle energy bodies.

MEDITATION IS A STATE OF MIND

The key word here is cling; it is so easy to get caught up in thought patterns. We follow our thoughts when we cling to the past, to the future, and even to the present moment. When we follow our thoughts, getting tangled up like cling wrap, we suffer from anger, fears, worries and all sorts of attachments.

THE MORE WE LEARN THE LESS WE KNOW

We are endlessly distracted and preoccupied with things which are not intrinsically important to our inner well being. In fact our educational system is founded upon the very principles that remove us from the sacred inner knowledge which lies at the very heart of our existence.

NO PARACHUTE

When we look inward and ask how is my mind we are not looking for an answer. If we are seeking an answer then we have already fabricated. We have already prepared our parachute and are holding it in our hands, ready to deploy.

I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY BESIDES THIS

With a satisfied nod, he turns to me and says, “Dzogchen practice is mostly done without a roof. After the lecture, tell everyone to walk off alone on the mountainside, sit down and work with the questions I’m going to give them. Just hearing is no use. Buddha must be discovered from within.”

SPACIOUS MIND SPACIOUS HEART

In many spiritual traditions, the essence of the mind-heart is symbolized by space. But why is this? Our true mind-heart is a union with the universe. The universe has no beginning or end and therefore our mind-heart is as spacious as the universe.

TARA’S TRIPLE EXCELLENCE

I have heard my teacher say that in the same way a summer rain will bring forth countless mushrooms in a meadow, the mind-training and meditation practices of Tibet brought forth an uncountable number of masters who awakened to their own potential. These masters attained a degree of fulfillment and insight in their lives that far surpasses anything we can imagine.

6 THINGS TO AVOID IN MEDITATION

Inventing a personal version of how our spiritual nature is, reality, oneness, non-duality, like making a wedding cake, being so proud of my enlightened ideas. It’s a trip, it’s absurd, and it’s ultimately wasted efforts.

ARE YOU BORED OR DISTRACTED

It is amazing just how much of our lives is held to ransom by passing emotional infatuations. Life slips by, unnoticed, because we are so continuously mentally and emotionally busy with the things that appear to be happening to us and around us; to say nothing of our private mental preoccupations.

HOW COMPASSIONATE MIND AFFECTS THE WORLD

In our modern age we live in such a disconnected state of heart-mind. We might think we are more interconnected than ever, with Facebook, texting, Instagram and so on. But that is a kind of external connectedness through gadgets.

DISCOVERING YOUR INNATE HEALING POWER

A real practitioner or teacher isn’t doing the healing for you. Instead she creates a space in which you can rediscover your own innate healing power. Real healing is about rediscovering your own innate power. Often we give this power away to a practitioner or a teacher.

THE MIRROR OF OUR MIND

Our true identity is like a crystal clear mirror. However, most of the time our mirror-like mind is covered with dust – the dust of attachments, worry, anger, and jealousy, just to name a few. To clean the mirror we turn to our daily meditation practices.

THE FINAL WORDS OF PADMASAMBHAVA

You may wonder, is mind nothing? It still shimmers and flashes forth, like haze in the heat of the sun. You may wonder, is it something? It has no color or shape to identify it but is utterly empty and completely awake. That is the nature of your mind.
– Padmasambhava.

VISUALIZATION

Visualization is powerful technique we can use to transform our mind and experience. To visualize is to imagine and create images in the mind.

THE GENUINE HEART OF SADNESS

Awakened heart comes from being willing to face your state of mind. That may seem like a great demand, but it is necessary. You should examine yourself and ask how many times you have tried to connect with your heart, fully and truly. How often have you turned away, because you feared you might discover something terrible about yourself?
